The man whom authorities allege perpetrated a downtown robbery has been charged with three felonies.
Jeffrey Dewayne Hart faces a potential life sentence upon conviction of aggravated robbery, a Class Y felony. Additional charges include possession of a firearm and first-degree false imprisonment.
According to the police report, Hart allegedly went to an Arkadelphia business on Dec. 15 and awaited the exit of someone associated with the establishment. Once the victim did so, Hart approached and pointed a silver handgun in their direction. He took money, a driver’s license, car keys and a phone. Hart reportedly warned the victim not to contact police because he knew where they lived.
That following Monday, Hart was arrested after authorities viewed video surveillance and developed him as a suspect. During an interview with Arkadelphia police on Dec. 18, Hart allegedly confessed to the robbery.
The prosecution is requesting an increased amount of prison time for Hart, owing to his previous felony convictions; court documents indicate more than four.
For possession of a firearm, five to 40 years is being sought, while the false imprisonment could bring between three to 30 years.
Hart’s arraignment, originally set for Jan. 16, was cancelled because of weather issues. He will now appear on Feb. 6.
