The Super Bowl half-time show is one of the best entertainment events of the year

Regular season games in the NFL have a half-time break lasting between 12 and 15 minutes.

However, because the Super Bowl half-time usually features a major musical performance which includes building a stage on the pitch itself, the players leave the field for around half an hour.

The performances are often led by music’s very biggest stars with cameos from other artists to sing or play unique live versions of each other’s songs.

So who is playing this time around in the 52nd Super Bowl and when will they start?

Super Bowl 2018 half-time show start time

The game itself between the New England Patriots and the Philadelphia Eagles is due to start at 5.30pm local time in Minnesota on Sunday February 4 - which is 11.30pm UK time.

Assuming it starts on time, the half-time show will get underway around 1.15am UK time although that does depend on the progress of the game itself.

Super Bowl 2018 half-time show line-up

Justin Timberlake is the headline act for the evening, his third appearance in the show and there are expected to be a number of high-profile cameos whose identities have not yet been revealed.

Timberlake first appeared as a member of the band NSYNC in 2001 and then as a solo artist in 2004, a performance best remember for an unfortunate moment when he accidentally exposed fellow artist Janet Jackson’s breast on national television.

Britain are guaranteed some involvement in the show too: the televising of the action will be directed by Hamish Hamilton, the Blackpool-born director who was also responsible for the televising of the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games opening and closing ceremonies.
