Matthew Tago

Tago

Matthew Tago seemed like a sure bet for Nebraska.

Until he wasn’t.

The three-star quarterback/athlete verbally committed to Oregon State on Saturday evening after a week during which it seemed like he would join the Huskers’ 2018 class.

As late as Friday, the sentiment was that Tago would choose NU following his Jan. 26 official visit, but something changed.

NU quarterbacks coach Mario Verduzco, who recruited Tago, had a Friday meeting with Quartz Hill coaches set until Friday morning, when he called to say he would not be making it, according to a Rebels coach.

Tago was set to start his career at quarterback here, but he’ll likely be a linebacker at Oregon State. He was recruited there by a familiar face in former NU linebackers coach Trent Bray.

NU’s 2018 class currently stands at 19.
