BMC Budget 2018: No more pay and use toilets in Mumbai, BMC to appoint contractual agencies

Mumbai: After receiving much flak from citizens, associations, activist and politician that BMC appointed contractors fail to maintain the ‘pay and use toilets,’ the civic corporation has finally scrapped the concept across Mumbai.
The BMC in the new budget for the fiscal year 2018-19 has decided to provide modern and upgraded facilities toilet facilities to the citizens.
BMC henceforth has decided all pay and use toilets constructed on the modern and new concept will be operated by the contractual agency. However, there will be no charge for its use. Instead the civic corporation will display illuminated advertisements on such toilet blocks and collect revenue.
The budgetary provision for this concept is Rs 10 crore. The civic corporation also under Swachh Bharat Mission has proposed to develop 20,000 toilet seats in next three years by demolishing dilapidated structures and constructing ground plus one and ground plus two toilet structures at an estimated cost of Rs 500 crore.
