The County Board of Commissioners urges all registered voters in Chippewa County to participate in the special election to decide whether the elected offices of Auditor/Treasurer and County Recorder should become appointed positions. Ballots were mailed to all registered voters in the county in January.
Current County Auditor/Treasurer Jon Clauson is calling on all registered voters to exercise their right to vote, as well as non-registered voters. “Voters who are not registered can contact my office for an absentee ballot application. The absentee ballot can be returned to my office via regular mail, buy email to <elections@chippewa.mn.us>, or faxed to 320-269-7412.
Non-registered voters who send their absentee ballot application to Clauson’s office will receive their absentee ballot by regular mail. Included with the absentee ballot will be an application to register to vote.
Non-registered voters can also come to the Auditor/Treasurer’s office in the Courthouse in Montevideo, complete an absentee ballot application, a voter registration application, and then complete voting as an absentee voter.
For all voters that have completed voting, their ballot should be placed in the tan secrecy envelope, then into the white return envelope.
“It is critically important the voter sign the return envelope and also have a witness complete the witness portion of the envelope,” Clauson said. The witness must be a registered voter in Minnesota. Voters may also have a notary public serve as a witness,” he added.
