Postdoctoral Fellow – In situ cryo-EM of autophagy assemblies : Heidelberg
Job Description
The European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBL) is one of the highest ranked scientific research organisations in the world. The Headquarters Laboratory is located in Heidelberg (Germany), with additional sites in Barcelona (Spain), Grenoble (France), Hamburg (Germany), Hinxton near Cambridge (UK), Rome (Italy).A postdoctoral position is available in the Sachse group in the area of structural cellular biology. The successful candidate will work in a collaborative environment together with structural biologists and electron microscopists to study cellular autophagy complexes using in situ cryo-EM methods. Experience in cell biology as well as structural approaches such as X-ray crystallography or electron microscopy are desired. The aim of the project will be to visualize autophagy assemblies in situ in eukaryotic cells.
EMBL hosts a unique and vibrant 3D-EM community with expertise in structural biology cryo-EM as well as cellular EM. The cryo-EM facilities at EMBL are outstanding and house two FEI Titan Krios, a Talos Arctica and Polara equipped with state-of-the-art direct electron detectors. In addition, we have a FEI Scios FIB-SEM instrument for thin specimen preparation. A contract of 1 year will be offered to the successful candidate.
