UoP students asked to apply for scholarships in China

PESHAWAR: Chinese Ambassador to Pakistan Yao Jing has said that Chinese embassy is looking ahead to accommodate students of University of Peshawar (UoP) in the upcoming higher education scholarships programme.

He called upon the university administration to tell students to apply for the scholarships in a large number.

The ambassador said that China-Pakistan Economic Corridor project was not just building highways but it would establish long term contact between people of the two countries.

He hoped that China Study Centre at University of Peshawar would help Chinese academics to gain broader understanding of Central Asia, Pakistan and Afghanistan. He went to University of Peshawar during his daylong visit to the provincial capital, said a press release.

The ambassador said that China Study Centre would help universities and people of both the countries to foster cooperation in all walks of life including literature, science, technology and education.

UoP Vice-chancellor Dr Mohammad Asif Khan welcomed the Chinese ambassador while deans, directors and senior administrative staff members of the university were also present on the occasion.

The ambassador said that CPEC was not building highways as most people misunderstood it but it was meant to establish long term people to people contact.

He said that Chinese embassy was looking ahead to accommodate UoP students in the upcoming higher education scholarships programme that would end in March. He called upon the university administration to tell students to apply for the scholarships in a large number.

The ambassador said that his government was looking to facilitate students in the exchange programmes. He said that China Study Centre would facilitate student camps, bilateral students to students and faculty to faculty exchange programme and host summer camps in both the countries.

The UoP vice-chancellor said on the occasion that the university was planning to commence bachelor studies and certificate/ diploma courses of Chinese language.

He said that UoP needed scholarships for students in applied sciences and cooperation of Chinese engineers to keep maintained the central recourse laboratories.

The Chinese delegation later visited China Study Centre. The Chinese ambassador cut the blue ribbon and inaugurated the plaque at the centre.
