DA will determine whether charges will be filed in fatal Netherland Drive shooting

Police have concluded their probe of a fatal shooting Tuesday night that left a robbery suspect dead.

District Attorney Billy West has been briefed on the shooting, said Sgt. Shawn Strepay, a police spokesman, and no charges have been filed.

"Once our investigation is complete, we will turn the case file over to the DA's office and they will make the final determination," Strepay said.

The shooting happened off North Reilly Road. Police say Jerome A. Allen, 51, was attempting to rob a woman and was shot by the her husband about 9:50 p.m. on the 7500 block of Netherland Drive in the Family Lodge Townhouse apartments.

Allen, of the 8700 block of Tin Lizza Drive, walked up and began talking to Rebekah Queman, 45. She said she did not know Allen.  Several minutes later, Allen showed a black handgun and demanded money, threatening to shoot Queman if she didn't comply, police said.

Queman's husband, Dario Miranda, 36, was in the residence and went outside when he heard a commotion outside. Miranda, who is an active-duty soldier, grabbed his gun and discovered that Allen, holding his firearm, was trying to force Queman into the residence, the release said.

Then, Allen pointed his gun at Miranda, who responded by fatally shooting him, police said. Queman immediately called 911.

Detectives discovered, in their investigation, that Allen's weapon was a pellet gun although it appeared to be a real firearm, the release said.
