Rohingya crisis: medics return back to UK after containing diphtheria epidemic

(MENAFN) British medics have succeeded in suppressing an epidemic of diphtheria at Rohingya Muslim refugee camps in Bangladesh, allowing them to head back to the UK after accomplishing their mission.

The Cox's Bazar camps have received during Christmas and New Year an emergency crew of 40 NHS doctors, nurses and paramedics who were successful in treating five hundred Rohingya.

The medical team, which the government stated to "embody everything the UK stands for", is to leave the rest to Bangladeshi health professionals after their return.

The emergency crew was deployed in three treatment centres as they oversaw precautionary antibiotics and live-saving diphtheria anti-toxins being given to individuals in the camps.
