WATERBURY – Pretty soon anglers hoping to catch and keep a trout or salmon from Connecticut waters will likely have to buy a $5 yearly stamp in addition to their fishing license. The proposal is part of the Connecticut Department…

Let’s all just form a caravan and move. Taxes, tolls fees, tires, gas, car registrations. What’s next?Air? This is beyond ridiculous.
It’s amazing how they can come up with more fees an taxes but never a way to cut programs or repeal regulations an mandates.
This proposed new fee seems very unfair to fishermen. It sounds like Connecticut state government’s new approach is to keep adding extra “fees” to various aspects of life. Expect a driving fee, walking fee, and grocery shopping fee to be next.
Just call it what it really is.. An Import tax… to maintain your ability to continue importing ILLEGALS… the biggest drain on the state.. The stamp can be a Guat with a backpack full of weed….
haha Love it!!
REPEAL and CUT are two words you’ll never find in the Dictionary of Democrat Party Politics. TAX, SPEND, TOLLS & FEES you will however.
Seems every day there is an article about new fees or taxes or ‘revenues’. How about some articles about the legislature cutting spending or repealing mandates. Come on.
They keep nickel and diming us with more fees and permits (a tax by another name), then wonder why revenues fall as fewer people by the licenses and permits. Compared to license costs when I first started hunting and fishing over 50 years ago, it now costs hundreds of dollars to do everything you could do for around ten dollars back then, Way above costs adjusted for inflation!. These extra fees/permits and stamps affect the occasional hunter/fisherman the most, which also reduces the sales and tax revenues on sporting equipment. They have found the fees exorbitant for the one or two times a year they might hunt or fish, and then have to get permits/stamps for various species makes it even less affordable. It’s been self defeating ever since they started raising fees and adding separate permits, since fewer and fewer people now buy them as a percentage of the population. It’s a vicious circle: Fewer people hunting and fishing because of the costs so the state raises the fees even more!
In addition the laws and regulations have become so complex (even vary from one fishing/hunting location to another) that you almost need a lawyer on retainer to be sure you’re not breaking the law! The regulations used to fit in a small pocket size booklet of a few pages. Now they are contained in two separate magazine size documents. Add to it the onerous permits required to buy guns and ammo and having to worry about which types of firearms are allowed for what type of hunting where, and it begins to boggle the mind. Add archery and that’s another license to buy and a whole set of other regulations and restrictions!
Adding a trout stamp will result in even fewer fishing licenses sold.
That’s one thing you can count on in Connecticut… taxes and fees. It it exists, it can be taxed. If the Democrats could figure out how to tax air, they’d do it. No doubt they’ll be trying to figure out how to tax your Federal Tax Cut money, too.
So know you are going to pay an extra fee to catch oily and sewage filled trout and salmon in the Naugatuck River. We all know the money will just go back into the general fund.
Why doesn’t the state add another $10 fee to motor vehicle registrations to pay for the fish hatchery. Oh wait, they already did that to pay for state park maintenance!!!!
Didn’t know if you realized it or not, but the only things offered to the elderly in this state, the elderly who rarely go to the state parks or fishing, especially old women, widows and widowers, was a parking pass for state parks and a fishing license. So they took away those honorable, rarely used parking passes and slapped a car registration fee on instead, but now will charge old people for a trout if they catch one on the maybe one or two time fishing trip to a local pond.
Yea , at least we got enough fish stocked in all the areas!!! With license fees going up the amount of fish stocked go down! With the license fees going up less pheasant stocked ! And that’s our DEMOCRATS way of having money to support their base !!!! Just like the Transportation Fund, Gas Tax, And any other ear marked slush fund ! Lock Box? Yea with a open bottom!
I got correct by Phill so, After 65 fishing licenses are free . sorry
P.S. SO FAR !!!
Woops! it was dfv31 that corrected me.
Are you kidding me? Who’s the IDOT that came up with this one? They already increased fees on licenses while cutting back on stocking areas and fish!!!! One has to pay a fee to fish off shore to fish ocean water which was always free! Do what you want I for one will not be purchasing a fishing license period! You clowns should be looking at how many vehicles are register out of state not paying taxes here with their owners living here! Should be cutting down on State vehicles that are being used for personal use! Increasing the number of DEP officers checking hunting and fishing licenses!. Correct your own misuse of funds before you dictate to us who can do a better job at balancing our finances than you do with our money!!!
FYI the saltwater fee was enacted by the Feds and covers every state with saltwater coasts. Supposedly it helps gauge fishing stocks and In setting quotas.
Thanks stand corrected!
its like they are deliberately coming up with all these tax schemes to intentionally make taxpayers want to get out of this deteriorating state.
Up next: a hazmat fee for farting.
Scatman 😂
Yep. Remember when Jodi Rell doubled the price of Fishing Licenses? Can’t trust those Rebublicans.
