BBC Sport pundit Mark Lawrenson hits out at Arsenal transfers in 'stubborn' Wenger rant

BBC SPORT pundit Mark Lawrenson has hit out at Arsene Wenger in a rant on Football Focus.

Wenger splashed the cash on Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang on deadline day while also bringing in Henrikh Mkhitaryan in earlier last month.

But the mood was soured in midweek as the Gunners crashed to a defeat to lowly Swansea - leaving them 26 points behind leaders Manchester City after just 25 games.

Lawrenson is less than impressed and said: "As good as those players are, they haven't solved Arsenal's problem.

"Three wins away from home and defensively soft-centred, still.

Mark Lawrenson says Arsenal are soft-centred

"Arsene Wenger is stubborn isn't he. Even last season they stumbled on three at the back and it was like 'woah, this is the way forward' but guess what, they've stopped playing with three at the back and they are still losing."

Lawrenson's co-pundit Leon Osman agreed and pointed the finger of blame at individual errors.

He said: "I think Arsene Wenger is obviously more interested in the attacking end of the field, it's what excites him.

"At the other end of the field it's moments like Granit Xhaka, where he just allows Clucas to run across him.

"He sees him all the way just doesn't go with him.

"It's individual players not taking enough responsibility in doing their job that's the problem."
