Introducing Dr Love, who solves your relationship riddles in a confusing digital age
My boyfriend wants to break up with me, but isn't giving me a single good reason. What do I do?
If he isn't giving you a good reason, it's probably because he doesn't have one or is simply looking for a way out because it's the easy thing to do. You can't force someone to stay with you though, especially someone who clearly isn't willing to even give this a chance.
I am a nice, kind, generous, caring person who has been in only one relationship so far. It ended because my girlfriend wanted to go abroad for further studies. This was over two years ago. Since then, I have gone out with a few other girls, but none of them have shown any interest in me and I haven't even come close to considering the possibility of a relationship with them. I miss my ex-girlfriend, but she has moved on and I think I miss her only because I'm still single and haven't been able to find anyone. Two years is a long time, and this has begun to affect my self-confidence drastically. I now avoid going on dates because I assume nothing will come of them and they will only make me more depressed. How do I snap out of this?
I'm not sure why you feel there's something you need to snap out of. This is just a phase. You seem like a sensible person who is aware of the fact that meeting someone interesting takes time. Missing your ex-girlfriend is normal, but recognising that you are focusing on the past for no apparent reason is also important. Some people can end a relationship and move on to another one within 24 hours. Most people take time though, because it isn't as easy as movies make it out to be. Hang in there, focus on other things and someone you like will come along eventually. If our politicians can find someone to love them, why are you being so pessimistic?
