In a game that featured 15 lead changes, the Washington girls basketball team got past Metamora 41-35 in Mid-Illini action on Friday night.
Washington's Kayana Diederich converted a three-point play to give the host Panthers a 33-31 lead early in the fourth quarter. Diederich scored seven of her nine points during a 9-0 Panther push to open the period.
Metamora (12-12, 5-7) struggled to shoot the ball with junior guards Reagan Begole and Anne Peters combining for 10 points on 4-for-23 shooting. Alivia West was effective in the post, scoring a game-high 13 points and registering a double-double with 10 rebounds.
Washington (19-6, 8-4) never trailed by more than three the entire game. Sierra Sonnemaker iced the game by hitting all four of her free throws down the stretch, finishing with nine points. Senior guard Josie Morgan scored a team-high 10 points, including five of her team's seven in the third quarter.
