The 2018 Six Nations begins on the first weekend of February to kick off one of the most eagerly anticipated championships on the rugby calendar, with England looking to retain the championship for the second time and become the first team to win the title three times in a row outright.
It will not be easy for England though, with Eddie Jones’s side missing a number of players through injury and suspension and five other teams gunning to snatch the title away from them. Having beaten England last year and dealing Jones his only defeat of his tenure, Ireland will hope to find the consistency needed to win back the championship that they lost in 2015.
Wales are also suffering from serious injury problems, with the likes of Sam Warburton, Jonathan Davies and Rhys Webb all ruled out of the entire championship, but a rejuvenated Warren Gatland believes his side are capable of winning the Six Nations for the first time in five years.
Scotland meanwhile will be the dark horses for the title, with Gregor Townsend’s side playing an attractive brand of rugby that puts the emphasis on attacking and bringing in to view the potential for plenty of bonus points – which could prove crucial come the end of the tournament.
France will undoubtedly prove an unknown quantity after the decision was taken at the start of 2018 to replace Guy Noves with Jacques Brunel as head coach, with the Frenchman deciding to call-up a number of young players and hope to trigger the dawning of a new era for French rugby, while Italy will do more than make up the numbers as Conor O’Shea continues to try and improve their fortunes – even if the prospect of them winning the title remains the unlikeliest of outcomes.
