“Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Philippe Coutinho, Alexis Sanchez and Aymeric Laporte all made big moves”
Usually, the mid-season transfer window does not see as many big transfers as that of the summer, but this year we saw some huge money moves in January.
From Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang to Philippe Coutinho, Alexis Sanchez to Aymeric Laporte, Premier League sides were at the heart of most of the biggest deals in the world.
In fact, out of the 20 most expensive transfers, only four did not involve a team from England’s top flight.
Spanish, German, Chinese and French clubs are the other buyers in the top 20, with no repeat in Italy of AC Milan’s mad summer spending spree of 2017.
Looking ahead, this summer is bound to be full of more massive deals, with the likes of Gareth Bale, Eden Hazard, David Alaba and Harry Kane all set to be at the heart of transfer sagas.
