MAGUINDANAO, Philippines — Government troopers were ambushed in Basilan and Lanao del Sur on Thursday.
Personnel of the Lantawan police in Basilan were returning to their station from a peacekeeping mission when they were waylaid in Barangay Bulan-Bulan.
The incident was preceded by the ambush of personnel of the Pualas police and soldiers belonging to the Army’s 55th Infantry Battalion at the boundary of Barangays Bolinsong and Ingud in Pualas.
There was no reported casualty on the side of government troopers, Chief Superintendent Graciano Mijares of the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao police reported yesterday.
Senior Inspector Knievel Salem of the Pualas police said suspected Abu Sayyaf bandits reportedly led by Masood Dagar and his siblings Moomin, Ola and Momong perpetrated the ambushes.
