Study: Grand Forks best place in North Dakota to earn rewards
Shoppers in Grand Forks have the greatest opportunity to earn rewards in North Dakota, according to a study from a financial technology company.
Grand Forks earned the top spot from SmartAsset for reward shopping in the state, beating out Bismarck in second and third-place Fargo. Devils Lake took 10th.
The study ranked the best cities in each state based on several factors: number of stores, property crime rate, sales tax rate, credit score and store concentration.
Grand Forks didn’t have the most stores in the state -- with 178 stores, it ranked third behind Fargo and Bismarck, respectively. But it had the highest rewards shopping index in the state, which was calculated by weighing each category, according to SmartAsset.
The credit score for all cities listed in North Dakota was 698, and it lists Grand Forks as having a 7 percent sales tax. Grand Forks’ sales tax is 6.75 percent, but that will increase to 7.25 percent on April 1 after voters approved half-cent jump in November.
The top ranking city in the U.S. was Lancaster, Pa., according to SmartAsset.
All of the top cities for Minnesota were placed in the Twin Cities area, with Falcon Heights, Minn., taking first.
