DUBAI: An airline employee who illicitly worked as a marijuana hawker has been jailed for two years plus deportation along with a marijuana supplier.

The Cameroonian man, 30, possessed with the intention of hawking 17 cigarettes stuffed with marijuana. He was under the influence of Tetrahydrocannabinol –the active ingredient in hashish.

His Ghanaian cohort –a clerk, 29- who also abused Tetrahydrocannabinol and dealt in marijuana cigarettes, was in connection with a fugitive dealer, prosecutors convinced the Criminal Court.

An Emirati lieutenant, 32, testified that on Oct.15.2017 a source alerted the Antinarcotics Department that the airline employee had drugs for sale. The department dispatched a police team.

The team arrested him at the airline’s barracks in Ras Al Khor. A policeman frisked him and seized seven handmade marijuana-stuffed cigarettes in his pocket. They escorted him to his bedroom.

He voluntarily pulled out several similar cigarettes from various areas in the bedroom.

He also pulled out pills, drug abuse tools and suspicious money transfer receipts. They took him to the department.

During interrogations he revealed that he purchased them from the clerk at Dhs500. And that it was not the first time he purchased drugs from him with the intention of peddling or consuming them.

The lieutenant said another police team tracked and arrested the clerk with a drug stash. He confessed to have sold marijuana to the airline employee on various occasions.

A Pakistani cop, 29, revealed the clerk was intercepted inside a parking lot allocated for buses in Hamriyah.

They took him to his residence from where he pulled out marijuana-stuffed rolls he had stashed inside socks.

He also pulled out drug abuse tools then revealed he received marijuana from a fugitive man at Dhs300 and that he handed the marijuana to the airline employee. Police issued a circular against the fugitive.
