The row over setting up of the proposed second campus of the Rama Devi Women’s University in the Vani Vihar premises intensified on Friday as some students the Utkal University set ablaze a stationary defunct ambulance protesting the decision of the State Government.
The irate students also locked all the entry gates of the university. All the classes in the university have been suspended for the last three days and the scheduled university examinations have been cancelled.
Even though police forces are deployed at Vani Vihar, tension continued to prevail in the campus as the Higher Education Department authorities, even after the students’ protests, are yet to roll back their decision of locating the RD Women’s University’s proposed second establishment at Vani Vihar.
The employees, including academic staffs, of the Utkal University have expressed solidarity with the protesting students.
On Thursday, hundreds of students of the university had held a road-blockade on the adjacent NH-16. The protestors withdrew the road blockade after heated discussions with police.
