Donald Savastano, 51, died from the unspecified form of the disease after he was pictured with his winner’s cheque.
The self-employed carpenter became famous overnight in his native New York when he spent just $10 on a whim for the ticket.
Savastano said he planned to use his winnings to “buy a new truck, pay off some debt and invest for future”.
He added: “Being a self-employed carpenter, I didn’t really have a plan for retirement.”

But, just three weeks later he was dead.
An obituary revealed he died of stage four cancer while surrounded by his family.
It also thanked Bassett Hospital and Tri-Town ER for the care he received before his death.
He had also been cared for at a hospice for a few days before he died.

For the last 10 years he had been living with girlfriend Julie Wheeler and hr two sons.
He is survived by his mum, two sisters and four brothers.
His family asked for all donations to be made to the American Cancer Society.
