The Sylhet Chief Metropolitan Magistrate court yesterday granted two days remand for an Awami League leader in a case filed over attacking two journalists in Sylhet court area on January 25.
On the day, Nirananda Paul of Jamuna TV and Mamun Hasan of the daily Jugantor were injured in an attack, allegedly carried out by the followers of Liaquat Ali, general secretary of Jaintiapur upazila Awami League.
Liaquat was denied bail in a murder case at the Chief Judicial Magistrate Court that day.
The journalists were recording video footages and taking photos of Liaquat and 29 others while they were being taken to jail when around 50 followers of Liaquat attacked them.
Gousul Alam, officer-in-charge of Sylhet Kotwali Police Station, said a case was filed with the police station the next day accusing Liaquat, Shamim Ahmed, Foyej Ahmed Babar, Jewel Arman, Hossain Ahmed, Najrul and 15 other unnamed persons.
In the case, Shamim Ahmed, another associate of Liaquat, is shown arrested, said Aiyub Ali, bench assistant of the court. Both are already in Sylhet Jail.
