Record attempt

Snowmobilers by the hundreds — yes, hundreds — filed through downtown Sault Ste. Marie Thursday afternoon in an attempt to set a Guinness World Record for largest snowmobile parade. Sleds lined along Portage Avenue and dipped into Water Street before getting on the main track from Ashmun up Eighth Avenue and finally to the I-500 Track. The current record currently stands at 1,047 machines making the march in Alberta. An unofficial count from the Sault Events, who organized the parade, suggested the attempt fell just shy with 997 participants. The parade was in conjunction with the I-500’s 50th anniversary celebration.
