Reclaiming Native American Culture talk on Feb. 4
The 2018 Elinor Williams Hooker Tea Talks series kicks off Sunday, Feb. 4 at 2 p.m. with "Reclaiming Native American Culture," a presentation and panel discussion that will explore current debates, including the perennial discussion over an art panel in the Durham Post Office and the effects of race on reclaiming indigenous spaces of remembrance not only in New Hampshire but across the country. This talk will be held at the Portsmouth Public Library, 175 Parrott Ave., Portsmouth in the Livingston Room. All events are free and open to the public.
Jocelyn and Chris Arndt at RPAC
Jocelyn and Chris Arndt will perform at concert at the new Rochester Performance and Arts Center at 8 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 3. The duo has released its debut full-length album "Edges." The Hadacol Bouncers celebrate CD release
The Hadacol Bouncers, a seven-piece New Orleans-style jazz band, is celebrating the release of its second album, “Straight from the Bottle,” at The Dance Hall in Kittery on Saturday, Feb. 3. The Bouncers have been featured at the Hall a few times, most notably at their event “The Bootlegger’s Ball,” and bring creativity, musical joy and a bunch of fun that keeps people dancing. Free swing dance lessons begin at 7:30 p.m., followed by The Hadacol Bouncers beginning at 8 p.m. The Dance Hall is located at 7 Walker St, Kittery, ME 03904. Winter Ice Dances show Feb. 3
Labrie Family Skate at Puddle Dock Pond hosts the 4th annual professional ice dance performance on the outdoor ice rink on Saturday, Feb. 3 at 3 p.m. Spectators watch from around the perimeter fence so all have a front-row view (limited seating is available). Produced by Founding Artistic Director Douglas Webster of Ice Dance International, an ensemble ice dance company, the performance again features international skating champions who will perform a show of company repertory called “Winter Ice Dances.” The show lasts 30 minutes. Tickets are $15 for adults; $10 for children (aged 5-17); $40 for family (2 adults/2 children). Children under 5 are free. Strawbery Banke members receive a 20 percent discount. Tickets include skating (skate rentals are an additional $5 per person). VIP tickets that include the opportunity to meet the skating stars after the show for photos and autographs are $22 for adults and $18 for children. Political comedy for a good cause
The Capitol Steps, a Washington D.C.-based comedy troupe will present two shows based on songs from their current album “Orange Is the New Barack” at The Music Hall this weekend. Proceeds from the shows will benefit The Housing Partnership. The shows will be at 5 and 8 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 3.
