THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Finance Minister Dr. Thomas Isaac, during his Kerala Budget 2018-19 in the Assembly on Friday, has announced an ‘Amnesty’ scheme for those who are facing legal charges for registering their luxury cars in Puducherry under fake addresses to evade state tax.
All legal charges against them would be withdrawn if they are willing to pay the tax they had to pay if they had registered their vehicles in Kerala. Dr. Isaac added that the vehicles of those unwilling to pay this tax will be ceased.
April 30 is the last date to pay this tax. The government expects to make Rs. 100 crore through this. There are about 1500 luxury vehicles and more than 2000 other cars registered in Puducherry that are plying on the roads of Kerala.
Earlier there were complaints against actor turned MP Suresh Gopi, actress Amala Paul and actor Fahadh Faasil for registering their luxury cars in Puducherry to evade the more costly state tax. Among them, Fahadh had paid up the tax and took him out of the case, while Amala Paul ad Suresh Gopi were questioned by the crime branch.
