Paris celebrates over-the-top couture at its Fashion Weeks each spring and fall. But can it really rival the Paris of the Piedmont – Charlotte, obviously – with its annual show of fashions made from condoms?
It’s nearly time again for Condom Couture, which in its fourth year will feature the work of more than 20 local designers, all made with thousands of condoms. The Feb. 24 event at The Fillmore will promote safe sex and raise money for Planned Parenthood South Atlantic.
“We are dedicated to raising awareness about safe sex with a giant dose of glamour,” event committee chair Lesa Kastanas wrote in a statement. More than 800 people attended last year’s show at the Neighborhood Theater, raising more than $70,000 for Planned Parenthood.
This year’s designers will include drag queen Buff Faye, Frock Shop owner Caroline Cook, cosplayer (that’s someone who dresses as a character from a film, book or video game) Amberle Linnea and artist Kat Sweet, among others. Ramona Holloway of 107.9 The Link will host.
The condom creations will be auctioned off after the runway show.
Tickets start at $30 for general admission and $150 for VIP seats.
