Tony Lascuña 4 adrift in Maybank Open

MANILA, Philippines — Tony Lascuña used a strong start, spiked by an eagle, at the back to fire a three-under 69 and trail Englishman Chris Paisley by four at the start of the rich Maybank Open at the Saujana Golf and Country Club in Malaysia yesterday.

Lascuña pitched in for eagle-2 at the par-4 No. 14 then birdied the par-3 16th to be among the early leaders in the $3 million championship. But the veteran Filipino campaigner slowed down at the back although he came through with a couple of tough par saves to preserve a solid 36-33 card.

That put him at joint 20th with 20 others, four shots behind Paisley, who sizzled with a bogey-free seven-under 65 to wrest a one-stroke lead over compatriot David Horsey.
