Mentally challenged minor girl gangraped in West Bengal’s Haldia, two arrested
The accused allegedly lured the victim, a class 8 student, with the promise of snacks

Two youths were arrested on Thursday night for allegedly raping a mentally challenged minor girl in the industrial town of Haldia in East Midnapore district of West Bengal.
The victim is a student of class 8.
Charges under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and gang rape were slapped against the two accused identified as Nishikanta Maity (29) and Ashok Manna (37).
“On the basis of a complaint filed by the father of the victim, the two were arrested. Medical test of the victim has been conducted,” said Tanmay Mukhopadhaya, the Haldia sub divisional police officer.
On Friday the two were produced in a Haldia court.
According to the complaint, the duo called the girl when she was going to a shop in Bhabanipur, where she lived. They lured her with the promise of snacks and took her to an abandoned building and forced themselves on her.
When she was returning, locals suspected something wrong and brought it to the notice of her parents. The victim also narrated the incident to them.
