Nicolai Jorgensen insists he is “not disappointed” - despite missing out on a January move to Newcastle United because Feyenoord is his “second home”.

The 27-year-old was Rafa Benitez’s top January striker target but the Magpies would not match Feyenoord’s asking price of £20million.

Jorgensen has scored 26 goals in 43 league games for Feyenoord, and eight in 28 appearances for Denmark.

Newcastle’s submitted two bids for the Denmark international last month, the highest of which was £15m, and the Eredivisie club would not countenance selling their first-choice striker for that fee.

Instead, Benitez turned his attention to other forward targets and eventually brought in Leicester City striker Islam Slimani on deadline day.

It is unclear yet whether Benitez’s interest in Jorgensen will extend through until the summer window.

But Jorgensen appears more-than content to remain at De Kuip until the end of the season at the very least.

“No, I’m not disappointed. Feyenoord is my second home,” Jorgensen told Dagblad Noorden when asked if he was upset that he did not join Newcastle during the January window.

“I feel very good here, the fans support me and I can develop very well here. I give everything for this club.”
