Jeff Goldblum, the man who made brainy nerds sexy, will be bringing his considerable charm to the third annual Silicon Valley Comic Con in April. And coming off a delightfully trippy role in “Thor: Ragnarok,” Goldblum might turn out to be the convention’s biggest draw yet — and this is a gathering that’s had Steve Wozniak, Stan Lee, William Shatner and Buzz Aldrin on its stages.
“He’s done science fiction, fantasy, eccentric, serious, comedy, action … with decades of iconic movies under his belt, Jeff Goldblum has amassed a legion of fans who are dying to meet him,” Silicon Valley Comic Con Chairman Trip Hunter said.
And there hasn’t been exactly a lot of opportunity for fans to get up close and personal with Goldblum, whose movie credits include hits like “The Big Chill,” “The Fly,” “Jurassic Park,” “Independence Day” as well as smaller, cult favorites like “Igby Goes Down” and “The Grand Budapest Hotel.” Goldblum appeared at a “Thor: Ragnarok” panel at Comic-Con International in San Diego last summer, but he’s never been a convention regular.
“To say we are thrilled to have him spend his first con weekend with us at SVCC would be a massive understatement,” Hunter said.
During the April 6-8 convention in downtown San Jose, Goldblum will be available for autographs and photo ops (which cost an extra charge beyond admission) and is expected to take part in an onstage event, but details haven’t been finalized. Other guests announced so far include Marvel Comics legend Stan Lee, actor Sean Astin of “Lord of the Rings” fame, and “The Martian” author Andy Weir.
