LAS VEGAS — The Montana State Billings softball team opened the season with wins over Mary and Academy of Art on Friday at the Desert Stinger Classic.
The Yellowjackets (2-0) used back-to-back seven-run innings to defeat the Marauders 14-0 in five innings. Megan Dettling's two-run walk-off home run in the bottom of the eighth inning gave MSUB an 8-6 win over the Urban Knights.
Brittanee Fisher homered and had four RBIs in the win over Mary. Allie Hughes had three RBIs, while Amanda Barham and Heather Tracy each had two. Tracy also had three hits.
Maddy Lincoln pitched a one-hitter, striking out six.
Shayla Felix homered and and three RBIs for MSUB in the second game, while Cameron Cassinelli had two hits and two RBIs. Dettling also pitched the first 6.1 innings. Lincoln pitched the final 1.2 to earn the save.
The Yellowjackets play Azusa Pacific and Colorado Christian on Saturday.
