Next-Gen Chevrolet HD Pickups Spied Testing for the First Time

The next-generation of Chevrolet Silverado HD pickups have been spied testing for the first time.

The first thing you’ll notice about these pickups is the grille – it’s absolutely massive. This choice could be spurred on by the absence of a ram air system, but two little slots in the camouflage are leaving us open to the possibility of the ram air ducts returning.

This new Silverado HD should have much in common with the 2019 Silverado shown in Detroit last month. Expect added cargo space and more tie down points in the bed, along with a similarly styled exterior with the unique front air curtains. The interior should also appear similar to the half-ton Silverado and adopt the same smart storage solutions, such as the rear seatback cubbies.

As far as powertrains go, GM’s 6.6-liter Duramax diesel should return with more torque than before. Our sister site Off-Road.com thinks the 3.0-liter Duramax diesel could also be modified for use in a budget-friendly diesel Silverado 2500, although GM hasn’t indicated the engine will appear in its HD trucks. The 6.0-liter Vortec V8 is expected to remain an option too.

Look for the 2019 Silverado HD trucks to debut sometime in 2019.
