One day after Merrimack High School’s Joe Eichman decided he would continue his football career at the University of New Hampshire, Goffstown’s Andrew Duval did the same.

UNH head coach Sean McDonnell extended a scholarship offer to Duval on Thursday, and Duval accepted that offer Friday.

Duval, New Hampshire’s Gatorade Player of the Year for the 2017 season, took an official visit to UNH last weekend.

“Very exciting day,” Duval said. “I’ve been waiting for this day for a long time.”

Duval, a 5-foot-10, 185-pound senior wide receiver, defensive back and kick returner, caught 27 passes for 718 yards and 11 touchdowns as a senior, when he led the Grizzlies (9-2) to the Division I semifinals. Duval averaged 26.6 yards per catch and also contributed two rushing TDs, one passing touchdown and one touchdown on a kick return. Defensively, he recorded five interceptions, returning one for a score against Exeter in the Division I quarterfinals.

Duval, who also had an offer from St. Anselm College, said he’s uncertain if he’ll be used on offense or defense at UNH. He was a starter at Goffstown since his sophomore season, when the Grizzlies won the program’s only Division I championship.

Duval is the fifth player to give a verbal commitment to UNH since the early signing period, joining Eichman, a running back/defensive back; Kyle Lepowski a 6-foot-4, 220-pound tight end from Tuscarora High School in Frederick, Md.; Charles Briscoe, a 6-foot, 174-pound wide receiver from St. John’s College High School in Washington, D.C.; and Derek Thompson, a 5-foot-10, 180-pound defensive back from Appoquinimink High School in West Middletown, Del.

Duval, Eichman, Lepkowski, Briscoe and Thompson can make their commitments binding by signing a national letter of intent Wednesday.
