NOIDA: Police on Friday night arrested two criminals after a shootout in
Transport Nagar in Sector 69. The accused have been identified as
Ankit Sharma (25) and Rahul (26), residents of Ghaziabad. Both the criminals received bullet injuries on their left legs and are admitted to government hospital. The police had announced a reward of Rs 10,000 on their arrest.
Rajiv Kumar Singh, Circle Officer II Noida, said that on January 29, the two criminals had placed an advertisement of an I-Phone on OLX. "They had priced the phone for Rs 60,000. They fixed the deal with a student, Mehzab Khan, and called him at a deserted location in Sector 68. The two accused tried to snatch his cash at gun-point," Singh said.
Police said that the criminals shot at Khan for resisting robbery and fled from the spot. The victim received a bullet injury on his back and fell on the ground. He was admitted to
Fortis Hospital and he recovered. A case was registered in Phase III police station in this regard.
On Friday evening police received information about criminals' movement near Transport Nagar in a car. "A police team was deployed at the spot. The police signaled them to stop for checking but they tried to escape after opening fire at police team," said police. Police said that they chased the criminals and forced them to stop after some distance.
The police returned fire and the two criminal abandoned the vehicle and tried to escape. "In retaliatory shots, the criminals got injuries in their legs. They were immediately overpowered and arrested," Singh said.
During interrogation the accused told police that they used to place
fake advertisements of mobile phones and cars and took prospective buyers in confidence. "We used to call them at isolated places and robbed their cash and valuables at gunpoint," said police.
Police have recovered two country-made revolvers and some live cartridges from their possession. The accused admitted that they had snatched the Hyundai Verna car last week from Sihani Gate police station area in Ghaziabad.
