LAKELAND — There were no injuries, spills or leaks when two cars on a CSX freight train derailed about 1 a.m. Wednesday, CSX spokeswoman Katie Chimeleski said in a prepared statement.

The local train, which serves Lakeland rail customers, consisted of a locomotive and two loaded tank cars carrying paraffin wax. The derailment occurred next to US 98 South across from Lakeland High School.

Sgt. Gary Gross, Lakeland Police Department spokesman, said the police were not involved in investigating the incident because it did not impact roadways and there were no injuries.
