HAVANA: Fidel Angel Castro Diaz-Balart, the eldest son of late Cuban revolutionary leader Fidel Castro, has committed suicide after battling with depression for months, state-run media reported.

He was 68.

"Diaz-Balart, who had been attended by a group of doctors for several months due to a state of profound depression, committed suicide this morning," said Cubadebate website.

He had initially been hospitalized for mental illness. Later, he was taken out of hospital but his treatment continued.
