VICTORY ON THE MAT: Bruins knock off Owasso

Just call it the thrilla at the Phillia — Phillips Fieldhouse, that is — in fierce varsity wrestling competition Thursday night at Bartlesville High School.

Both Bartlesville and Owasso swapped forfeits and wins on the match — until the decision came down to the final match on the mat

Owasso led, 35-27, going into the next-to-final weight division. Bartlesville was already assured six more points at heavyweight (285), due to a forfeit, which would make the score 35-33, in favor of Owasso.

That meant Bartlesville’s Lukas Hammack had to win by a decision (three points) at 220 pounds in order to elevate the Bruins past Owasso.

He did it.

Trailing 2-0 after the first period, Hammack rallied to win, 5-3, and power Bartlesville to the 36-35 victory.
