Texas sheriff's deputy repeatedly shot responding to theft

LOCKHART, Texas (AP) — A Texas sheriff's deputy is in stable condition following surgery after he was shot multiple times while responding to a theft report at a home.

Caldwell County sheriff's Sgt. William Miller says the shooting occurred early Friday at a house near Dale, a small community about 30 miles (48 kilometers) south of Austin.
