DUBAI: Hospital and surgical beds were the leading medical/health-related exports of Indonesia to the Middle East and North Africa (Mena) in 2015 and 2016.

The second to the fifth top exports were syringes and hypodermic needles, sphygmomanometer and stethoscopy, examination lamp, x-ray, electrocardiography 12 light emitting diode, and surgical mask and infusion set.

Indonesian Economic Affairs Consul at the Indonesian Consulate General in Dubai Arief Priowahono shared the list with The Gulf Today as the leading Jakarta medical/health-related exporter to the region, PT. Mega Andalan Kalasan (MAK), presented its newest hospital bed invention at the Jan. 29 to Feb. 1 “Arab Health 2018.”

The invention is called Bed Infinite.

MAK export marketing manager E.Dwi Etnawati said the bed is unique compared to the traditional hospital beds because aside from being extendable until.20 centimetres, autoregressive, and could be converted into a cardiac chair position, its load capacity is 250 kilogrammes (kgs), the plastic mattress is removable, and it has its own x-ray machine.

Etnawati added: “There is a blow moulding for the head and foot panel, the electronic part is waterproof and its load capacity being 250 kgs means it is more than the standard IEC 60601-2-52 which is only at 200 kgs.”

The bed showcase at the “Arab Health 2018” is the first to be done in the international and reigonal levels for this year since the gathering is the first of its kind in the world every year, according to Consul General Arzaf Firman.

MAK has been exporting hospital and surgical beds all over the world. Exports to Mena began in 2007 through the Al Dawar General Trading in Abu Dhabi.

It is through its Abu Dhabi partner that the company has its hospital and surgical beds reach thousands of patients across the UAE, Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, India, Switzerland, and Africa.

“We also get clients from Southeast Asia because of the Arab Health exhibitions,” said Etnawati.

MAK is also a major distributor of hospital and surgical beds in Japan where it has also gained a well-established business partner.

Etnawati was hopeful that with the just-concluded business-to-business exhibition, the company would have more opportunities to take a more active role in the healthcare industry.

Total Indonesian export to Mena in 2016 amounted to $1,587,859,626,120.00 with the medical/health-related products ranked 50.

The top Indonesian exports to the region in 2016 were palm oil, woven synthetic fabric, jewellery and accessories, motor cars and other motor vehicles, as well as uncoated paper and paperboard.
