Andy Neal won the men's 400 meters to account for the lone Nebraska win on Friday's opening day of the Frank Sevigne Husker Invitational at the Devaney Sports Center.
Neal clocked in at 47.19 seconds to edge former Husker teammate Cody Rush, who was competing unattached and finished just 0.20 behind Neal. Sam Bransby was third.
On the women's side, Kierra Griggs was second in the 400 and Raynesha Lewis was second in the long jump.
The NU men added three third-place finishes to round out the first day of competition. Nick Percy was third in the weight throw, with the Hastings duo of Grant Wickham and Alex Wellington finishing first and second, respectively.
Hastings' Caleb Cowling, a Lincoln Pius X graduate, won the men's long jump with a leap of 24 feet, ¼ inches. NU's Elijah Lucy was third. The Huskers' Tyler Loontjer was third in the pole vault.
The meet concludes Saturday, with field and running events starting at 11:30 a.m.
