For the second year in a row, a member of the Eagles has won the NFLPA Byron “Whizzer” White Community MVP Award for charitable efforts this season.
Defensive end Chris Long, who donated all of his game checks to charity, was named this year’s winner on Thursday.
This came after safety Malcolm Jenkins was the winner last year.
The award is voted on by NFL players and Long’s foundation will receive a $100,000.
The other finalists for the award were Houston’s J.J. Watt, Denver’s Von Miller, Cincinnati’s Andy Dalton and Colin Kaepernick, the former 49er who was out of football this year.
Long has also done tireless work for his Chris Long Foundation. Among the initiatives is building clean water wells, starting in Tanzania. The foundation also helps out the homeless, the military and youth in need.
Long wasn’t eligible to be nominated for the NFL Walter Payton Man of the Year award since players in their first year with a new team are ineligible. Last season, Long played for the Super Bowl champion New England Patriots.
This year’s three finalists for the 2017 Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year award are Watt, Carolina’s Greg Olsen and Baltimore’s Benjamin Watson.
