Viatel joins Huawei for upgrade of Nos mobile network

Viatel is working with Huawei on the Single Radio Access Network (SRAN) project to modernize the mobile network of Portuguese telecom operator Nos. The aim is to standardize the network, replacing old equipment with more modern equipment across 2G, 3G and 4G technologies. The project foresees the installation of Radio Network Controller, Base Station Controller, U2000 Unified Network Management System and the expansion of the LTE network, as well as the upgrade of the 2G equipment and the replacement of the radio system using MIMO. The geographical area of ​​the project is Central and Northern Portugal and the island of Madeira, with intervention planned at about 1,500 Nos base stations. Completion of the project is expected in September.
