Scientist, others bag NIV awards

Pune: Three National Institute of Virology (NIV) employees bagged honours for contribution in their respective fields on the institute's foundation day.

Scientist Gajanan Sapkal, head of the Diagnostic Virology Group, received Tarachand-Sushilabai Mourya award on Friday. Sapkal was instrumental in setting up Zika Surveillance Network in the country.


Technical staff Triparna Mujumdar received Dr S N Ghosh memorial achiever of the year award. Mujumdar played a significant role in operationalising the bio-safety laboratory level 4 (BSL-4) at NIV's Pashan campus.


Satish Matkar got Shri Mohan Singh Chadha best performer of the year award for his administration skills.
