President highlights importance of protecting local industries

President Maithripala Sirisena says it is important to have a policy which gives prominence to local industries when strengthening the national economy.

The President said this addressing the launch of Leather and Footwear exhibition at the BMICH today.

Meanwhile, the World Wetlands Day was commemorated with the participation of President Maithripala Sirisena at the 'Ape Gama' in Battaramulla today.

In another event, the newly printed Rs. 1000 note to commemorate the country's 70th Independence Day celebrations was presented to President Sirisena today.

Central Bank Governor Dr. Indrajit Coomaraswamy and other officials attended the event.
