THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: V T Balram MLA has questioned setting apart Rs 10 crore in budget for building a memorial for A K Gopalan. Is there need to build AKG memorial at a time when the State is reeling under financial crisis? asks Balram on his Facebook post.

Rs 10 crore is also set apart separately for Punnapra Vayalar memorial. The government which rules the State may have all that authority but it has the moral responsibility to convince the people of the purity of purpose behind this decision during the time of financial crisis.

Balram says that if the government had used that money for projects useful to the poor people like EMS housing project, it would have been better. Instead of that, they are implementing projects with political intention like Modi government which has built memorials for Patel and Sivaji. It is unfortunate that this approach is acceptable to Isaac also.
