Munshiganj: A suspected robber was killed in a shootout with police in Munshiganj Sadar upazila on Friday afternoon.
Deceased Rinku, 28, a resident of Deoyani village in the upazila, was accused in 22 cases including murder, piracy and extortion, said district Superintendent of Police Mohammad Zayedul Alam PPM.
On information that Rinku was conducting criminal activities including extortion in Char Land's Sarderkandi village area after he became free from jail on bail.
Police conducted a drive in the village around 12:30pm. Sensing the presence of police Rinku and his two associates opened fire to police, forcing them to fire back that triggered a gunbattle.
Rinku received 2 bullets during the gunbattle while his associates managed to flee.
Later, he was rushed him to Munshiganj General Hospital where the on-duty doctors declared him dead.
Meanwhile, three police members, including SI of Sadar Police Station Sanjoy, were injured in the incident.
