As Director, Immuno-Oncology (IO) Research, you will develop new therapeutic modalities for cancer based on our insight into innate immunity and human genetics, set the strategy and lead the group. As a member of the leadership team, you will collaborate with multiple preclinical and clinical functions to translate Alector's IO strategy into a research plan and portfolio with near- and long-term goals. You will help grow Alector and guide its direction. As an early hire, you’ll be influential in championing and developing Alector’s culture.

During the first year, your goals will include:

• Lead the immuno-oncology research team, by identifying new programs and advance research programs from discovery to development candidate nomination
• Prioritize IO pipeline programs, by setting the overall research strategy, establishing decision-making cascades, aligning on go/no-go milestones, timelines and resourcing required for success
• Collaborate with other teams – such as protein engineering, preclinical development, and clinical – to ensure alignment and the effective transition of programs from research into early development
• Manage external collaborators and serve as a key scientific liaison with external organizations
• Develop talent in the research organization by providing professional and personal growth opportunities and mentorship
• Develop long-term research and non-clinical strategy for Alector in collaboration with other members of the leadership team

Requirements
We'd love to hear from you if:

• You are an expert in immuno-oncology with a strong familiarity with myeloid biology
• You are very accomplished, with have a minimum of 5 years of experience beyond your PhD and post-doctoral work
• You demonstrate a track record of being a team player and a strong leader, with experience leading an antibody-focused research group that has advanced programs into development
  Your research has been published in top-tier academic journals
• You take pride in being persistent, innovative, and strategic
• You thrive in an environment where we work independently and on teams
• You have a strong point of view but are low ego
