SAN JOSE — A man was placed on a 72-hour psychiatric hold after he reportedly waved around a chainsaw at his board-and-care home Thursday.
Police were dispatched at 12:48 p.m. to an address on Flintdale Drive in East San Jose after a fellow resident there reported a 41-year-old man holding a chainsaw.
By the time officers arrived at the residence, the chainsaw was no longer in the man’s possession. Police convinced him to agree to a psychiatric hold at a local hospital on the grounds he posed a danger to himself or others, Officer Gina Tepoorten said.
Tepoorten added that the chainsaw, which needed to be plugged in, was not operative when the initial police call was made.
No injuries were reported, and police do not believe the man was specifically threatening anyone.
