A woman Port Orange police saw was dragged out of a gas station and into a car by an armed man Thursday afternoon has been found safe, an official said.
Just before 6 p.m., Karon Watson, 32, and Damoya Davis, 22, arrived together at the gas station at 5784 Taylor Branch Road, according to Port Orange Police Department Detective Sergeant Thomas Aiken, but Davis removed several bags from the car and entered the store alone while talking on her phone to arrange for an unknown person to come pick her up.
Watson originally drove away, but then returned a few minutes later and "yelled for her to get into the car," Aiken said. When Davis refused, the man entered the store and forced her outside, Aiken said.
"Once outside, the female began walking away from the male, but he grabbed her again and began dragging her toward the vehicle while the female was actively resisting him and screaming for him to let her go," Aiken said. "The male forced her into the vehicle and drove away from the scene with the female inside the car."
A 9-1-1 call from a man at the scene offered more details. "She was screaming, and panicking," the caller said. "She was, like, shouting 'no, stop,' and now he's running red lights through traffic underneath the highway overpass."
A witness later informed officers Davis had a black semi-automatic pistol tucked into the front waistband of his pants, Aiken said.
Port Orange police detectives located Davis, unharmed, Friday but Watson is still at large, Aiken said. "Davis and Watson have a domestic relationship and have a child together."
Police have filed charges against Watson with the State Attorney's Office for armed kidnapping and battery.
Records show that Watson was arrested last June and charged with aggravated battery on a pregnant person.
The vehicle was described as a white 2017 Toyota Camry with the FL tag #CTI-U25. Anyone who can identify either of the two are asked to contact Detective Sergeant Thomas Aiken at 386-527-5653.
