BERLIN Hiland head girls basketball coach Dave Schlabach claimed his 600th career victory after his Hawks dominated Newcomerstown 90-9 Thursday.
Schlabach is in his 27th year at Hiland. His teams have captured five Ohio Division IV State Championships, including last season with a 29-1 overall record. The Hawks have been runner-up for the state championship four times.
With Thursday's victory, Hiland improved to 15-4 overall and 11-0 in the Inter-Valley Conference.
The hosts romped out to a 35-3 lead after the first quarter and raised it to 53-5 at halftime. The lead soared to 73-9 after three quarters and Hiland outscored the visitors 17-0 in the fourth quarter for the final score of 90-9.
All 13 players for Hiland scored at least two points, and all but one of the Hawks made at least one assist.
Morgan McMillen led the way with 21 points, while Kennedy Schlabach scored 18 and Zoe Miller added 11.
Taylor Lafferty scored six of Newcomerstown's nine points, with Madison Fish added two and Amaris Wells one.
Hiland outrebounded the visitors 28-19, with Tiffany Weaver grabbing four. Fish and Wells pulled down three each for the Trojans.
