I disagree with Bill Simpkins about President Donald Trump ["The time to impeach Trump is now," Jan. 22]. The president is responsible for keeping us safe. No other country has open borders, and no other country allows people to enter illegally, much less have the financial benefits of health care, education, etc.

It must be realized that entering this country legally is the safest path for all. Troublemakers, criminals and drugs are coming in and destroying our young people. I understand why people want to come here, but it must be done as the law requires. The immigrants who leave their homeland and come here legally have not been the troublemakers.

We need a wall for our protection; the same reason you lock your doors. Hillary Clinton, Nancy Pelosi, Chuck Schumer and President Barack Obama all agree that the borders need to be secured, but in eight years did nothing about it. Human trafficking and drugs are on the increase in addition to killings by illegals.

Speaking of Social Security benefits, as the letter mentioned, the government cannot provide a living for you. You must do that yourself because the government is broken, and Social Security was never meant to be your retirement even though you contributed to it. Do you realize our members of Congress opted out of the Affordable Care Act? They don't want to give up their benefits. If it was such a good program, why do they not want it? They are both Republicans and Democrats, so blame both parties.

May I suggest a good resource to help with financial security? High school parents, have your children read Dave Ramsey's book "Total Money Makeover" and learn how to save, invest and give. People need to be willing to sacrifice, accept responsibility and not blame others for their problems. The government cannot provide financial security; it can only tax you.
